About Us

The State Government has established Senior Citizens Department for the welfare of senior citizens and attached the subject to Disabled Welfare Department in the year 2002 and nominated the Director, Disabled Welfare as State Level Nodal Officer for implementation of National Policy of Older persons in the State.

The Department for Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens is mandated to implement acts and rules pertaining to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and Senior Citizens, such as Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, National Trust Act, 1999, RCI Act, 1992 and Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. The department strives to enable the PwDs & Senior Citizens to lead an independent and dignified life through various programmes.

Objectives:

Multi-sectoral coordination with various Government departments for implementation of various schemes meant for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

Elder Line (National Helpline for Senior Citizens - 14567):

Through Elder Line (Toll free number - 14567) program, various services like rescue of the abandoned, reunion with families, emotional support for the abused, legal advice, support in availing government benefits and entitlements under MWPSC Act, information on various elder friendly services/products etc. are provided to senior citizens through a dedicated connect center (a team to receive calls) and field interventions (through a team of field response officers).
